Scenic helicopter flight over Wellington’s south coast and harbour, passing Makara Wind Farm, Karori Rock Lighthouse, Te Papa and The Beehive.

Tour Overview

See Wellington’s southern edge from above on this scenic helicopter flight, with a route that focuses on coastline, harbour and city landmarks. Departing from the city, the flight heads past Makara Wind Farm, where rows of large turbines stand out against the landscape.

Continuing along the south coast, you’ll fly over rugged cliffs and remote seal colonies, then pass Karori Rock Lighthouse, a historic marker on the edge of Cook Strait. The strait is known for challenging conditions, and from the air its exposed coastline and open water are easy to appreciate. On clear days, the flight also offers views toward the Marlborough Sounds and the northern tip of the South Island.

The return journey follows Wellington Harbour, giving a broad view back across the capital. From above, you can pick out Te Papa, The Beehive and the Cake Tin as the helicopter approaches the city.

This is a flight-only experience and does not include a South Coast landing. It suits travellers who want to see a wide section of Wellington in a short time, from working wind turbines and coastal landmarks to harbour scenery and central city icons, all from the air.
