eBike day trip on the Remutaka Cycle Trail from Wellington via Kaitoke or Maymorn to Featherston, with rail history, lunch, transport and food included.

Tour Overview

Ride the flagship day trip of the Remutaka Cycle Trail on an eBike, with 28km of easy to moderate riding through rail history and changing landscapes. After pickup from Wellington Station, or Wellington Port for cruise ship guests, you’ll be shuttled to the trailhead at Kaitoke or Maymorn.

From Kaitoke, the ride begins in the native bird filled Pakuratahi Forest, following the old railway line across bridges and through tunnels. Information stations along the way explain the construction of the Fell railway system, a first for New Zealand at the time and one of only a few in the world. At the summit, stop for a picnic lunch on a grassy plateau beside the remains of a historic station.

The second half of the ride is a long, controlled descent to Cross Creek in the Wairarapa, with views across farming country, before continuing through the countryside to Featherston. The tour finishes at the Royal Hotel, where the shuttle meets you for the return journey over the Remutaka ranges, down the Hutt Valley and back to Wellington.

Transport to and from Wellington, eBikes with trunk bags, and food are included. This tour is specifically for eBikes. Cruise ship guests should note the 9.15am port pickup and afternoon return timing when checking sailing schedules.
