See more of Wellington on a private tour shaped around your interests, time available, and the weather. Hosted by Jo and Suzee, this flexible experience is designed for families and friends who want to go beyond the usual city sights, with local knowledge and a relaxed pace.

Heading north, the drive circles Porirua Harbour, noted here for both its beauty and its history. If visual arts are of interest, there is the option to stop at Pātaka Art Museum for current community and cultural exhibitions. From there, the route can follow the Centennial Highway to Paekākāriki, where you can explore the village and beach, or visit the QEII Park museum, which focuses on the 15,000 US troops stationed there during World War II.

Other possible stops include Paraparaumu for a privately owned automotive collection of more than 400 cars, and beach time with close views of Kapiti Island. The return route can cross Paekākāriki Hill to the Hutt Valley, with possible stops at Battle Hill Farm and the wetlands of Pāuatahanui.

Back in the city, the drive follows the harbour edge on land raised by the 1855 earthquake. If time allows, the tour may finish through Thorndon village and the Botanic Gardens. Local refreshments are available in the vehicle, and mobility needs can be accommodated.

    Porirua Harbour

    Your itinerary will reflect your interests, time available and the weather. If there is something particular you have in mind, please let us know. We will stop for lunch along the way, location based around when hunger strikes. Heading north, we drive around the visually beautiful & historically significant Porirua Harbour. For people interested in visual arts, we can stop at the Pātaka Art Museum to check out their current community & cultural exhibitions.

    Queen Elizabeth Park

    Driving the Centennial Highway to the delightful seaside village of Paekākāriki, we check out the village & the beach. We can also visit QEII Park museum dedicated to the 15,000 US troops stationed there in WWII.

    An option for the car lovers out there - we can visit the Southern Hemisphere's premier privately owned automotive collection at Paraparaumu, with over 400 cars for viewing.

    Battle Hill Farm Forest Park

    Offering incredible views of the Kāpiti Coast, we will drive over the Paekākāriki Hill to the Hutt Valley. Along the way we will stop for photos, possibly meeting some eels at the historic Battle Hill Farm & visit the wetlands of Pāuatahanui.

    Wellington Botanic Garden

    Returning to the city, we will drive along the Harbour’s edge on land raised in the massive 1855 earthquake. If time permits, we will finish off with a drive through historic Thorndon village & a visit to the Botanic Gardens, before dropping you at your preferred location.

Please let us know your preferred pick-up location eg the Port, the Airport or your accommodation. Cruise Ship passengers: Port pick up and drop off is included. We will adjust our timing to meet your ship’s timetable, if needed....

Important Information

We will get in touch once you have booked to organise and confirm your specific pick up location & time. Your tour, including your pick up and drop off, is totally customised to suit your timing (the booking system requires a start time, we chose 9.30 as that was frequently chosen). Cruise Ship passengers are picked up directly from the Port and independent travellers are picked up from your centrally located accommodation.
