Small-group Wellington City Heights tour with viewpoints, Weta Cave, Te Kopahou Visitor Centre and a one-way Cable Car ride to the Rose Gardens.

Tour Overview

See Wellington from a series of elevated viewpoints on this small group City Heights tour, limited to 11 people. With a knowledgeable Kiwi guide, you’ll travel through the capital’s bays, hills and coastline, stopping at places that show how the city sits between harbour, slopes and sea.

The tour begins with a meeting point 10 minutes before departure, then includes Wellington landmarks and neighbourhood details along the way. You’ll pass the Band Rotunda, first built in 1938, see the Carter Fountain, and notice painted ladies and other historic houses climbing the hills above the bay, including examples of Wellington’s Streamline Moderne style. A gentle climb of 30 steps leads to a lookout over Paradise and the city.

There is time at Weta Cave to see local cave trolls, with paid tours available at reception, followed by a coastal drive with wide views over Wellington. On the south coast, the route includes Te Kopahou Visitor Centre, then heads west to see one of the wind turbines that contributes to Wellington being 90% self sufficient in electricity.

Admission is included for a one way trip to the top of the Cable Car, with access to the Cable Car Museum and a walk through the Rose Gardens. The tour also stops where New Zealand law is drafted, with a chance to see King Dick, before returning to base.
