6-hour Remutaka Cycle Trail day trip from Wellington to Featherston via Kaitoke and Pakuratahi Forest, with bike, lunch, transport and return shuttle.

Tour Overview

Ride the flagship section of the Remutaka Cycle Trail on this all inclusive 6 hour mountain biking day trip from Wellington. After pickup from Wellington Port at 9.15am for cruise ship guests, or Wellington Station at 9.30am, you’ll be shuttled to Kaitoke to begin a 28km ride suited to all levels.

From Kaitoke, the trail leads through the native, bird filled Pakuratahi Forest, following the route of the old railway line. You’ll cross bridges, pass through tunnels, and can stop at information stations that explain the construction of the Fell railway system, a first for New Zealand and one of only a few in the world. At the summit, there’s a picnic lunch on a grassy plateau beside the remains of a historic station.

After lunch, the ride changes pace with an easy to control descent to Cross Creek in the Wairarapa. From here, continue along the countryside toward Featherston, where the ride finishes at the Royal Hotel. The return shuttle travels back over the Remutaka ranges, down the Hutt Valley, arriving at Wellington Station around 3.30pm to 3.45pm, or Wellington Port around 3.45pm to 4.00pm.

Bikes, trunk bags, transport, and food are included. This tour uses a regular mountain bike.
