eBike day trip from Wellington port follows the Remutaka Cycle Trail to Featherston, with tunnels, rail history, lunch, transport and food included.

Tour Overview

This eBike day trip follows the flagship section of the Remutaka Cycle Trail, combining rail history with a 28km ride that suits a range of abilities. Cruise passengers are picked up from the Wellington port at 9.15am and driven to the trail start, with return transport back to port scheduled for around 3.45pm to 4.00pm.

From the start, the route climbs gradually through native bush. You pass through tunnels, with headlights provided, and cross bridges along the way. Information boards explain the scale of building the old Fell railway system, adding context as you ride. At the summit, a wide grassy plateau provides a stop for a picnic lunch or a cold drink before the trail turns downhill.

The descent to Cross Creek is described as fun but easily controllable, leading into the Wairarapa and its open farmland. From there, the ride continues along a countryside track to the Royal Hotel in Featherston. Featherston is noted here as New Zealand’s last book town in the Wairarapa. After the ride, you are collected at the Royal Hotel and driven back over the Remutaka Ranges and through the Hutt Valley to Wellington port.

Transport, eBikes, trunk bags and food are included. Riders just need suitable clothing and to be ready on time for departure.
