Private 90-minute Star Safari in a Dark Sky Reserve near Martinborough, with telescope viewing or e-astronomy, plus a complimentary hot beverage.

Tour Overview

Spend an evening under the southern sky in a private Star Safari, hosted by Hari and Sam. Set on a hill in the middle of an internationally recognised Dark Sky Reserve, just 10 minutes from Martinborough, this 90 minute experience is designed for your group alone.

On arrival, you are met and can pick up a blanket or jacket from reception before walking 25 metres to the telescope viewing area in the Moon Garden. When stars are visible, the session focuses on deep sky objects of the Southern Sky, viewed through powerful telescopes. You can bring your own observing list, or have one prepared for you. By the end of the session, you will have a clearer sense of what is in the sky and how to orient yourself to the stars.

If weather conditions are not suitable for telescope viewing, the experience shifts to e-astronomy. Using planetarium software and a big screen, Hari and Sam guide you on a tour of the universe. The session also includes a virtual reality exploration of the Solar System and a look at a collection of astrobiology rocks from across New Zealand, used to discuss astrobiology, New Zealand’s contribution to it, and the search for life on Mars.

A complimentary hot beverage is included, and sessions often run a little longer if time allows.
