Tour Overview

Travel in a private electric Tesla SUV from Wellington, with pickup from your hotel or cruise ship port. The route takes you through the Hutt Valley and over the Rimutaka Hill into Featherston, with the option to stop at Kaitoke Regional Park. Here, you can take a 10 minute loop walk that crosses a swing bridge and passes beneath ancient forest trees. On the return journey, there is also a stop at the Rimutaka Summit, a resting point for infantry during training between 1915 and 1918, followed by a short five minute walk for views across the Wellington region.

Along the way, pause at a local cafe for coffee or tea and scones before continuing to Martinborough. At Palliser Estate, a guided tasting introduces the character of Martinborough through wines sourced from vineyards on the Martinborough Terrace. The tasting lasts about 45 minutes and includes insight into Palliser Estate’s history, land, sustainability and organic journey, with a focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Lunch is a two course meal with a wine tasting tray at The Runholder, home of Te Kairanga, Martinborough Vineyard and Lighthouse Gin. In Greytown, visit Schoc Chocolates to sample award-winning gourmet chocolate, with flavours ranging from strawberry and caramel to whole lime and chilli, sea salt, and pink peppercorn. Morning refreshments, lunch, and wine tasting fees are included.

    Kaitoke Regional Park

    Your day starts being picked up in Wellington at your hotel or cruise ship collection or location of your choice. You will enjoy a scenic drive through the Hutt Valley and over the Rimutaka Hill into Featherston. On the way we can stop at Kaitoke Regional Park which was used in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. If you like, take the 10 minute loop track walk ,over a swing bridge and under the ancient forest trees.
