Tour Wellington from the city centre to Mt Victoria, Weta Cave, Kelburn and Parliament Grounds, with hilltop views, heritage landmarks and the Cable Car.

Tour Overview

See Wellington’s key sights on a tour that moves from the city centre to hilltop views, film props, waterfront suburbs, and heritage landmarks.

Your journey begins in Wellington’s downtown entertainment area, then heads up Mt Victoria, where from 197 metres above sea level you get a 360 degree view of Wellington. The route also takes in the rugged coastline and the area known for the Southern Hemisphere’s largest roundabout, before stopping at Weta Cave. Here you can see props used in films Weta Studios have been involved in, browse the gift shop, and use the bathroom facilities.

Back in the city, ride the Cable Car from downtown Wellington to Kelburn. At the top are views over the city and a cable car museum. You will also visit the Lady Norwood Rose Gardens, with roses, an Italian fountain, Begonia House, café, and the Peace Flame set in a rock from Hiroshima.

The tour includes Parliament Grounds, where you see the three Parliament Buildings, the Library, Parliament House, and the Beehive. It also stops at Old St Paul’s Cathedral, noted as one of the world’s best examples of Gothic Revival architecture. If you wish to go inside, an entry fee donation applies. Along the way, you will also pass Wellington’s most popular city beach and some of the city’s most expensive real estate.
