Guided eBike tour from Switched on Bikes along the Wellington Waterfront, Oriental Bay and Wharewaka, with helmets, instruction, harbour views and stops.

Tour Overview

Choose a morning or afternoon departure and set off from Switched on Bikes on an easy to ride eBike, with helmets and full riding instruction provided before you begin. The route starts along the Wellington Waterfront, where shared paths lead toward Oriental Bay and a first stop that introduces the story of the first inhabitants of New Zealand and Wellington Māori history.

As you continue, you’ll ride past Te Papa Museum and along the waterfront to the iconic statue where your guide explains Wellington’s famous wind. There is also time to stop by the Wellington sign. The tour then follows the bays, with minimal city riding, passing the busy waterfront at Oriental Bay before a tea or coffee stop near Cog Park, with harbour views and yachts nearby.

Further on, there is a rest break at Wellington’s wind needle, an 85 foot wind sculpture that moves with the breeze, alongside commentary about New Zealand’s energy system. The cycle path also passes custom wind sculptures and offers the chance to look out for dolphins, penguins or even orcas, while aircraft descend near Wellington Airport.

A lookout over Wellington’s bays adds a wider perspective before the tour visits Wharewaka, marked by a statue of Kupe and carved waka inside. The ride finishes back where it started at Switched on Bikes.
