Guided 10km bike tour of Wellington via the waterfront and Oriental Bay, with stops at Wharewaka and Miramar peninsula before returning to Switched on Bikes.

Tour Overview

Start at Switched on Bikes, where there’s time to get set up and get comfortable on your bike before heading out on an easy 10km ride. This tour follows cycle paths at a relaxed pace, making it a straightforward introduction to Wellington for anyone with a couple of hours to spare.

Ride along the Wellington Waterfront toward Oriental Bay, passing shared paths that are busy on sunny days. Along the way, your guide introduces some of the past and present people who have helped shape Wellington as a creative capital, while pointing out landmarks including Parliament, Wellington Stadium, Wellington Railway Station, Cuba St and Te Papa Museum.

There are several stops that add context to the city. At Wharewaka, marked by the statue of Kupe outside, you’ll hear about Māori travel to Pōneke and Aotearoa and see carved waka housed inside. On the waterfront, stop by the Wellington sign and the well-known statue linked to the city’s famous wind. In Evan’s Bay, pause at the large wind sculpture to hear more about local nature and New Zealand’s energy system. The route also reaches the Miramar peninsula, where the “Wellington Blown Away” sign opens up stories about conservation and the film industry.

The tour finishes back at Switched on Bikes.
