Discover Wellington 3 hour City Tour

See Wellington on a 3 hour tour that introduces the city’s history, culture, conservation story, and place in the world of Te Whanganui a Tara. This is a broad overview of the capital, combining major sights with lesser known corners, four photo stops, and a ride on the Wellington Cable Car.

Along the way, you’ll pass the national museum and hear about current exhibitions you may want to visit later. There’s time to stop at the Wellington sign, then travel through Miramar while learning how the area became the home of New Zealand’s film industry. On the South Coast, a photo stop at Wahine Memorial Park looks out over the entrance to Wellington Harbour, Taputeranga Marine Reserve, Cook Strait, and on some days the Kaikoura Ranges on the South Island.

The route also includes driving beneath the Wellington Airport runway and watching local surfers in the bay, plus a stop at Mt Victoria Lookout for wide views across the city and harbour. In the centre, you’ll travel through Courtenay Place, pass the Bucket Fountain on Cuba Street, and see the Beehive at NZ Parliament and Old St Paul’s Cathedral.

A complimentary ride on Wellington’s Cable Car, New Zealand’s only remaining funicular railway, adds another city view from the summit.
